What’s a reunion without some friendly competition? Download the GooseChase app and compete against alumni from around the globe in an attempt to earn one of the top three prize winning spots. Start collecting your favorite old photos now, they'll come in handy during the game. You can earn points for things like submitting your favorite memories from your time on campus or registering for events during All Gaucho Reunion. The game begins at 9am on April 12th. Be sure to register and have the app downloaded on the first day for your best shot at winning! 


Art and Activisim

Documenting Santa Barbara’s Art and Activism

UCSB Library invites Santa Barbara community members and UCSB students, faculty, staff, and alumni to submit original works that address how the pandemics of racial injustice and coronavirus have shaped their lives. Works can include a wide range of formats, including journal entries, poems, course work, photographs, videos, social media posts, zines, or audio recordings. We encourage folks to submit works under their own or an assumed name for either one of the digital collections. For more information about how the Library will store, maintain, and make accessible these works head to the library website. The curation team welcomes questions and comments, please write to us at: outreach@library.ucsb.edu .

We invite alumni near and far to participate in Virtual Gaucho Gallop. A repeat of last year’s phenomenal event, join as Gauchos across the globe run, walk, hop, or skip in the pursuit of healthy living. Participate in an activity, anytime between April 19th and April 25th. Then, snap a photo and send it to us for a chance to be featured on our social media and website. 

Generational Trivia

Gather virtually with fellow Alumni for some friendly competition. Organize a virtual night of trivia with your favorite Gauchos and test your knowledge of UCSB, sports, entertainment, and more. Register to let us know you're participating and then choose a date and time during the reunion to have your virtual trivia night. For additional information, head to the Generational Trivia tab at the top of the page.

Literally—Get Up Gauchos! Zoom fatigue is real. Muscles tighten, posture becomes slouched and energy levels can plummet as the day wears on. This affects the brain as much as the body. 
In these 30 minute guided stretch breaks we will explore a diversity of stretches and light exercises to wake up the body and mind, increase blood circulation, reduce tension and discomfort all while restoring energy to help you stay awake and alert for extended periods of time. "Do Environmental Markets Cause Environmental Injustice? Evidence from California’s Carbon Markets"

In their Pacific View talk, Kyle Meng and Danae Hernandez-Cortes will share what they learned when they examined evidence that economically disadvantaged and racial minority communities bear a greater share of environmental harms following the introduction of California's greenhouse gas emissions trading program, the world's second largest carbon market. Meng and Hernandez-Cortes will discuss implications and limitations of theri findings in other settings where environmental injustices meet environmental markets.

Pour a glass of wine and join the UCSB Library for a screening of America’s Wine: The Legacy of Prohibition, a documentary that offers an unprecedented overview of the legacy of National Prohibition and its continuing impact on the wine industry. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion diving into Prohibition’s effects on the Santa Barbara wine industry, how the current pandemic is actively remodeling its landscape, and the Library’s role in preserving our local viticulture history. This class is geared to anyone looking to find all the benefits of yoga. The class will take you on a journey through the layers that yoga has to offer, physical, emotional, and mental. Participants will learn foundational alignment through breath in order to strengthen and give flexibility to the body, within the physical practice we will weave in tools to build a mindful practice leading towards meditation. The more we work and face challenges on the mat the more opportunity we create to move through difficulties in our daily life. This class is geared for all levels variation and modifications will be offered.

Jesse Byrd ‘10 is an African-American children’s book creator and dual-native of California and Louisiana. After 3 years working on a secret project for Google at their headquarters in California, Jesse decided to pursue his true love of creating stories for readers young and old. Jesse’s debut novel, King Penguin, was highly praised and won awards at both the Los Angeles and Paris Annual Book Festivals, placing top 10 for the year in its category. His two picture books: Sunny Days and Real Jungle Tales have received awards in four major competitions worldwide. Communication Career Day: Transitions

This year's theme will be transitions--transitions into careers or transitions to a new career. Learn about careers using the Communication major and interact with successful Communication alumni! Attend the 13 th annual Communication Career Day—virtual for the first time. Keynote panelists include Jamie Morgan, Head of Technical Recruiting at Cruise, Takako Suzuki, Statistician/Data Scientist at Neustar, Diana Nguyen, Learning and Development Program Specialist, Apeel Sciences. Following the keynote panel, dozens of Communication alumni will interact in small group breakout rooms to offer individualized career advice to Communication students. Freshmen and sophomores gain insight into the variety of professions and diverse career paths chosen by our Communication alumni. Juniors and seniors learn tips about entering the workforce. All alumni are most welcome as participants. UCSB Communication alumni serving as Virtual Alumni Table Hosts are invited to discuss their careers and career paths in small group breakout discussions with majors and pre-majors.

Kim Donnelly ‘08 was born and raised in California. In high school, her favorite subjects were Chemistry and Math which led her to pursue a Chemical Engineering degree from the UCSB and ultimately, started her on the path to becoming an author. From a young age, she has enjoyed teaching and mentoring others, so her books are intended to be educational in a fun way that appeals to children. She hopes that her books make science approachable for families and children become inspired to explore STEM topics further. Zine Workshop

Register for Zine Workshop

Join UCSB Library for the spring UCSB Reads Zine Workshop, now virtual, no experience necessary! Zines (pronounced “zeens”) are self-published, DIY collections of photos and text that are printed by hand or photocopied, and independently distributed by the author or ‘zinester.’ Zines and independent publishing have a long history as tools for community and individual empowerment. Participants will learn how to make a zine and are invited to contribute pages to a group zine exploring the themes from the UCSB Reads 2021 book When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir, by Patrisse Cullors and asha bandele. The first 25 participants to register will receive a free copy of the UCSB Reads 2021 book.

Looking for your next career opportunity? Join us online for our next Hire UC Virtual Alumni Career Fair. Participating companies will host group information sessions on 4/28 and candidates will sign up for 1:1 video interviews with company representatives on 4/29. Over 70+ employers from a wide variety of industries offering entry-level and experienced positions are expected to participate. This event is free for University of California alumni to attend, but you must register to participate. Further details on signing up for company information sessions and interviews will be provided after you register.

Welcome to our Gamma Phi Beta campfire, where alumni will join breakout rooms by graduation year and be invited to answer questions about your time as a gphi. The breakout rooms will last roughly 10-15 minutes before we all reconvene in the main room and share stories and great memories with everyone.
